This organization provides mental health resources tailored to San Diego County artists, supporting local creatives in all stages of their career through collaboration with entrepreneurs and arts leaders.
In 2022, Blanca Lucia Bergman, MBA, launched Mental Wellness for Artists (MWA) as an Instagram-based hub for mental health resources tailored to San Diego County artists. Through strategic marketing and collaboration with entrepreneurs and arts leaders, MWA quickly evolved into a leading provider of innovative mental health support for the region’s arts community.
While it continues to actively share resources via Instagram @mentalwellnessforartists, MWA has expanded its reach by:
Hosting interactive mental health resource exhibits at museums, galleries, concerts, festivals, and alternative art spaces
Delivering public and private mental health presentations
Leading signature events across San Diego County, including a curated mental health art exhibition, a multidisciplinary resource fair, and other immersive experiences designed to nurture creativity, build community, and support improved mental health through a holistic, artist-centered approach
Art, music, writing, dance, and other creative activities can help people process thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to express with words alone. Creative expression can support self-reflection, stress management, and emotional awareness.
Many artists experience challenges such as financial uncertainty, performance pressure, creative burnout, social isolation, or self-doubt. These stressors can affect overall well-being and make support systems especially important.
Research shows that social connection is an important factor in mental well-being. Art exhibitions, creative workshops, community events, and collaborative spaces can help reduce isolation, foster belonging, and create opportunities for meaningful connection.
